Leonard Watson was employed at Derby’s Midland Hotel all his working life. Here, his son, Alan, of Spondon, tells Sarah Powlson about his dad.
LEONARD Watson was just 13 when he started work at Derby’s Midland Hotel in 1917.

Young Len must have liked his job because, apart from a six-year break during the Second World War, he worked at the hotel until his retirement in 1972, aged 68.
