At the end of the Second World War, Ron Guest’s mother took an 80-year-old newspaper to the editor of the Derby Telegraph. Now, Ron has brought that same newspaper – now almost 150 years old – in to Bygones. Sarah Powlson reports.
THE saying that history repeats itself definitely applies where a fascinating copy of The Derby Gazette from 1863 is concerned.
The paper, dated Friday, December 18, 1863, has been in the family of Ron Guest, of Horsley Woodhouse, for at least three generations.
Ron brought the paper in to us at Bygones recently, thereby repeating the actions of his grandmother back in 1945.
