This fascinating picture, which has been sent in to Bygones, is something of a mystery. The anonymous sender said they thought it could be a gathering of a Mothers’ Union group in the mid-to-late 1940s. It was taken in the Star Room, which at that time belonged to Boulton St Mary’s Church. These days, the premises are a furniture shop situated next to the Blue Peter pub on Shardlow Road, Alvaston. The vicar seated, right, is the Rev Wright, while other women who appear on the photo are Mrs Horton, Mrs Henshaw, Mrs Charlotte Brearley (nee Briggs), Mrs Mary Fearn (nee Briggs), Mrs Ida Oughton and Mrs Edith Haynes. Can you provide some information about the photograph or do you recognise anyone on it?
