Recent stories about the Monks and their pyclet-making businesses has prompted a response from a family member. Jane Goddard reports.
THERE is nothing like the mention of food to provoke happy memories and this has certainly proved to be the case with the pyclet-making Monk family.
Several readers have written to Bygones to recall buying the local delicacy which, for many years, were sold around the town by several different members of the same family.
Barrie Monk, whose great grandfather James Campion Monk started the business in the second half of the 19th century, has now contacted Bygones to share the family’s history.
And his niece, Mandy Burrows, has sent in the lovely photograph, above, of one side of the Monk family. Continue reading »
